"Vimal Jyothi Engineering College is one of the educational projects of the Archdiocese of Thalassery and is managed by Meshar Educational Trust, Archbishop’s House, Thalassery. Mar George Valiamattam, Arch Bishop of Thalassery is the Patron of the college and Msgr. Mathew M. Chalil the chairman. At present, in the whole Kannur University B.Tech course in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation is offered only in VJEC.

The Undergraduate course B. Tech in Applied Electronics & Instrumentation was started in 2005 with an intake of 43 students and Post graduate course M. Tech in Control & Instrumentation started in 2013. Both UG and PG courses are under the Department of Electronics & Instrumentation. The Department is having well qualified and experienced faculty members to improve and enhance the knowledge of the student community. The department has good laboratory facilities equipped with the latest technologies (It own total 5 Laboratories and for details please check Facilities section in this page). The first batch of B. Tech Applied Electronics and Instrumentation students passed out in 2009. Department scored 3 ranks in the academic year 2009- '10, 2010-'11 & 2011-'12. Our alumni's are working with many multinational companies like Endress+Hauser Ltd, ABB Global Industries, Yokogawa IL, Intel etc.  Our alumni’s are working in many Indian companies (Repute Engineers Pvt Ltd., Parison Foods, RC cables, Zayan Infotech, Cognizant, L&T, Plazma Technologies, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Avench Systems, TCS, etc,.) also. We support entrepreneurs in launching and growing sustainable businesses. Already one group of our students started a company in the field of Agriculture Automation. The syllabus and teaching methods using here are not only for the academic growth but also for professional & social developments. The department of E&I Scores the best placement records in the past years.

Department of Electronics & Instrumentation places maximum attention for the personality development of the students those who joined under the Department. It believes that concentration on the intellect won’t be enough and the harmonious blending of the intellect and heart is the key in developing a responsible individual. “It is our desire to make this institute an ideal meeting place of the most modern technologies with traditional values."

This is the 1st Department who started M. Tech in Control & Instrumentation in Kerala. Many workshops and guest lectures are organized for the mutual development of the students and the staffs. The first national level Conference by the department, I- Fest 09 was organized in the year of 2009.
