The purpose of IT policy is to define the appropriate uses of computing facilities by the students, faculty and staff of the Vimal Jyothi Engineering College, Chemperi. This policy applies to all IT infrastructure users, Higher Authorities, Faculty, Staff (Non-Technical / Technical), UG and PG Students, and Guests, who access the IT facilities including internet facilities provided by the institution through Wired or WiFi connectivity. All users are expected to be familiar with and to comply with the policy.
IT Systems: These are the computers, terminals, printers, networks, routers, online
and offline storage media and related equipment, software, and data files that are
owned, managed, or maintained by VJEC. For example, IT Systems include
institutional and departmental information systems, faculty research systems,
desktop computers, and the campus network .
User : A "User" is any person, whether authorized or not, who makes any use of
any IT System from any location. For example, Users include a person who
accesses IT Systems via an electronic network.
Systems Authority : Head of the Department of Computer Science and
Engineering is the legal operator of all IT infrastructure who delegates oversight of
particular systems to the head of a specific subdivision, department, or office, or to
an individual faculty member. Instructor of the Department of Computer Science
and Engineering oversees the day-to-day operation of the system and is authorized
to determine who is permitted access to particular IT resources.
Internet access will be provided to users for their academic needs only and they are restricted to access the contents under the academic category only. As part of the Internet access request process, the user is required to read the IT Policy. Users not complying with these policies could be subject to disciplinary action.
All computers in the campus are connected by the LAN/Wi-Fi using a 172 Mbps connection mainly provided by BSNL India Ltd., with backbone optical fiber connectivity. Sufficient Optical fiber ports and Ethernet ports are provided over the campus, for laptops / devices in need of internet connectivity. The institution has 50 Wi-Fi hotspots with Wi-Fi controllers to cover the area throughout the campus. The SOPHOS XG450 firewall is installed in 2020-2021 which is upgraded from CYBEROAM CR750 hardware firewall and six manageable switches from CISCO to ensure security.
