Thermal engineering is a branch of science that covers energy conversion from one form to another, working of IC engines, modes of Heat transfer, principles of refrigeration and air conditioning etc. The field of thermal engineering includes a lot of applications that can be classified as the combination of thermodynamics and heat transfer, such as IC engines, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
The objective of this laboratory is to provide the student a good environment to understand some very important concepts and applications in the field of IC engines and refrigeration. These concepts are necessary to understand how the typical thermal devices work.
These fundamentals will be used to link the phenomenological processes taking place in the engine for issues of: power generation, emissions and environmental impact, fuel economy and fuel composition effects on engine operation and mechanical limitations of obtaining ideal performance.
The department is well equipped with Fluid mechanics and machinery laboratory, which helps the students to have basic ideas about the subject fluid mechanics and fluid machinery. The purpose of this laboratory is to reinforce and enhance the understanding of the students regarding the fundamentals of Fluid mechanics and Hydraulic machines.
The experiments here are designed to demonstrate the applications of the basic fluid mechanics principles and to provide a more intuitive and physical understanding of the theory. The main objective is to introduce a variety of classical experimental and diagnostic techniques, and the principles behind these techniques. This laboratory exercise also provides practice in making engineering judgments, estimates and assessing the reliability of your measurements, skills which are very important in all engineering disciplines.
Heat and mass transfer lab equipped with number of machinery’s used to study the nature of heat and mass transfer in different modes like conduction, convection and radiation. The experiments conducted in heat and mass transfer laboratory helps the students to know the heat energy transfer from one location to another and what are the losses occurred during the heat transfer.

Production Engineering laboratory is an integral part of the department of mechanical engineering as it is heavily involved in carrying out the manufacturing activities with the help of some sophisticated equipments for the research activities in the department as well as for the undergraduate training on workshop courses for the students throughout the institute in every semester. With the assistance of quality supporting staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students are able to carry out the fabrication work for their BTech as well as MTech project and thesis work using lab facilities.
Production Engineering is primarily a course which stresses more on practice and experience rather than theory .In order to become a successful engineer one must be thorough not only with the theoretical , but also the practical aspects of the subject. In order to serve the basic purpose of education ,it becomes essential to bridge the gap between theory and practice . Our department laboratory intends to fulfil this criterion . It gives the right kind of field experience with the unique combination of conventional and modern machines it possesses .The student consequently, familiarizes himself with the ambiance of a typical factory layout . This shall help him immensely in his future endeavors to serve any manufacturing organization. The expertise of the staff and members of the Production Laboratory are always there to guide the students in this aspect.
Vimal Jyothi Engineering College has a state of art CAD/CAM lab. The students are trained to use computers for the development of designs utilizing both 2D and 3D Software. Staffs and techniciansare available to assist in the Computer Aided Design (CAD) package that has basically three components: a) Design, b) Analysis, and c) Visualization. The users are encouraged to learn, practice and apply the knowledge gained into their research areas. Initially this facility is introduced mainly for students to evolve concepts and convert it into a complete product.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering provides in house training and certification course in various CAD softwares. Research and development and extension of research facilities to the nearby institutions are planned.
The following are the main objectives of CAD/CAM Lab:
