NBA Accredited B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering

Department of Computer Science & Engineering was established in the year 2002 and is accredited by NBA (National Board of Accreditation) up to 30.06.2023. The Department offers M.Tech & B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering, B.Tech degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Design, B. Tech Computer Science and Engineering (Cyber Security), and B. Tech Computer Science and Engineering and Business Systems. The Department of CSE is deeply committed to providing high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate education. The course has a comprehensive curriculum aimed to provide knowledge, in both theoretical and practical aspects of Computer Science, with an emphasis on practical learning. Core subjects include Programming Languages, Computer Architecture, System Softwares, Computer Networking and Security, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science.

Elective subjects are chosen to help the students to learn more about the various trends in computing. Minor courses are provided for the students to learn interdisciplinary subjects. Honor courses have opted for academically brilliant students. Classes are handled by young and vibrant faculty members committed to teaching. They motivate the students to become engineers suited to meet the standards expected by the industry. Professional bodies like ACM, CSI & IEEE are active in the department. Department of CSE provides state-of-the-art computing facilities to the students supported by high-speed LAN and Wi-Fi. MoUs are signed with RedHat Academy, Oracle Academy, and Infosys Campus Commune for the betterment of student exposure to the outside world. Through proper guidance, students are molded to become Industry ready and have the best placement opportunities.

Spark AR Facilitator Workshop

Google Explore ML

Organized a workshop for the CSE students on Google Explore ML-beginners track on 29 th Oct 2019. The workshop was handled by Mr. Arjun Govindan, Google ML facilitator (S7 CSE). The workshop was attended by 36 seventh and fifth semester students. The workshop covered basics of Machine Learning and all the participants were issued “Certificate of Completion” by Google.

IoT Challenge 2020

In association with i3india Technologies and Aakaar IIT Bombay, organized the prelims of IoT Challenge 2020 on 28 th Sept. -29 th Sept., 2019. The event was coordinated by Ms. Divya B, faculty sponsor, Ms. Neena V V, Professional member, Ms. Varada M V, Chair and Ms. Ann Mary George, Vice-Chair along with 11 ACM student members. IoT Challenge 2020 is a national event with a two day workshop and a competition at the end of second day. We had 120 participants from various branches of VJEC. The resource persons were Mr. Sinku Kumar and Mr. Vivek, embedded engineers from i3india. Every participant of the event was given a certificate of participation. Winners of Round 1 were given merit certificates. Out of the 120 participants, 3 teams were selected for the finals on March 15 th 2020 at IIT Bombay.

CSI SPONSORED FDP ON MACHINE LEARNING WITH ITS MATHEMATICAL FOUNDATIONS

CSI sponsored FDP on machine learning was conducted from 2 March 2021 to 6 March 2021. The one-week online Faculty Development Program (FDP) on MACHINE LEARNING WITH ITS MATHEMATICAL FOUNDATIONS in collaboration with the Computer Society of India(CSI) was organized successfully with the participation of different stakeholders. The FDP addresses the fundamental concepts of machine learning and mathematics. The details of the course are given below. The FDP was coordinated by Dr. Jeethu V. Devasia- Associate professor- HoD- CSE, Ms. Akhila Mathew - Assistant professor-CSE, Mr. Ansil Nazar- Assistant Professor- CSE.
This course was aimed at the faculty members of the AICTE approved institutions, research scholars, PG Scholars, participants from Government and Industry. There were 150 participants registered for the FDP from the various institutes/ colleges/ universities in India. Mar Joseph Pamplany, Chairman of Vimal Jyothi Engineering college inaugurated the FDP. Dr. Benny Joseph, Principal of Vimal Jyothi Engineering College, Dr. Jeethu V. Devasia, Head of the department of computer science and engineering, and Dr. Sheeba K representative of CSI Trivandrum chapter addressed the gathering in the inaugural session and discussed the importance of this FDP.

Workshop on Hyperledger Fabric

VJEC CSI students chapter conducted a hands-on workshop on Hyperledger Fabric on 7 March and 8 March 2020. The workshop is coordinated by Ms. Akhila Mathew, Assistant Professor CSE. Session handled by Mr. Vishnu Pradeep, ULTS Calicut. The session mainly focused on the basics of Hyperledger fabric.

Basics of C Programming Workshop

Organised Basics of C Programming Workshop on September 3 2019 and September 4 2019,coordinated by Ms. Akhila Mathew,handled by Mr. Arjun Govindan (S7 CSE),Mr. Midhun Devasia (S7 CSE), Mr. Ajay Joy (S7 CSE), Mr. Amal Lakshman (S7 CSE).The session was all about basics of a C program and data types also a brief explanation on the scope of programming and its applications.


STTP on Blockchain Technology and it’s Applications

Department of CSE have organised a three days STTP on “Blockchain Technology and it’s Applications” from 13th - 15th July 2018. The course included better understanding of the functions of Blockchain, its behaviour as immutable, encrypted and distributed ledger. Critical evaluation of existing "smart contract" capabilities and platforms and examines their future direction, opportunities, risks and challenges. Hands-on implementation and deployment of Ethereum private network and smart contract will also be covered. Dr. Manoj V Thomas (Professor and HoD CSE) was the chief co-ordinator and Ms. Derroll David and Ms. Anisha Joseph were the co-ordinators. Dr. Sindhu M from TIFAC-CORE in Cyber Security, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore and Mr. Midhun T P from Factweavers Technologies Pvt. Ltd. were the resource persons.

ACM-W is ACM’s Council on Women in Computing. ACM-W aims to support, celebrate, and advocate internationally for the full engagement of women in all aspects of the computing field. The focus of ACM-W is to inspire, motivate and encourage women for joining the field of computing and eventually sustaining and growing in the profession. Through its various activities, the organization facilitates the progress of women in computing-related work and education. The goal of the ACM-W student chapter is to facilitate technical growth of women by organizing invited lectures, seminars, workshops, and informal meetings. It provides support to women in their professional career growth and helps them to face the challenges in their work environment.

Spark AR Facilitator Workshop

Google Explore ML

Organized a workshop for the CSE students on Google Explore ML-beginners track on 29 th Oct 2019. The workshop was handled by Mr. Arjun Govindan, Google ML facilitator (S7 CSE). The workshop was attended by 36 seventh and fifth semester students. The workshop covered basics of Machine Learning and all the participants were issued “Certificate of Completion” by Google.

IoT Challenge 2020

In association with i3india Technologies and Aakaar IIT Bombay, organized the prelims of IoT Challenge 2020 on 28 th Sept. -29 th Sept., 2019. The event was coordinated by Ms. Divya B, faculty sponsor, Ms. Neena V V, Professional member, Ms. Varada M V, Chair and Ms. Ann Mary George, Vice-Chair along with 11 ACM student members. IoT Challenge 2020 is a national event with a two day workshop and a competition at the end of second day. We had 120 participants from various branches of VJEC. The resource persons were Mr. Sinku Kumar and Mr. Vivek, embedded engineers from i3india. Every participant of the event was given a certificate of participation. Winners of Round 1 were given merit certificates. Out of the 120 participants, 3 teams were selected for the finals on March 15 th 2020 at IIT Bombay.

Hardware Laboratory

Experiments conducted in this lab include familiarization with PC components and assembling and maintenance of computer systems. Lab sessions are provided to first year students to familiarize with motherboard, processors, expansion slots, power supply units etc.

This lab is also used to conduct Assembly Language programming sessions. Low level programming with 8086, interfacing experiments using stepper motor, ADC, DAC and HEX keyboard are handled in this lab.

The lab has ten 8086 trainer kits, in-circuit emulators for popular 8 and 16 bit processors, digital storage oscilloscopes and digital testing equipment. It is also equipped with 25 personal computers for conducting MASM/TASM programming sessions.

Census Data Collection and Analysis

It is a web-based application for the Archdiocese of Tellicherry. During the first phase of this web app project, we collected data of around 2.4 lakh persons from 56K+ families under the archdiocese of Tellicherry spread across kannur and kasaragod districts.
