Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering

NBA Accredited B.Tech Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering

Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering was started in the year 2005. The Department is accredited by NBA (National Board of Accreditation). The department offers both PG & UG courses, B.Tech in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation started in the year 2005 and M.Tech in Control and Instrumentation in 2013. The first batch of Applied Electronics and Instrumentation department passed out in 2009 with three university ranks.

The course mainly concentrates on the application of electronics and instrumentation. The department has well qualified and experienced faculty members to improve and enhance the knowledge of the student community. The department has well equipped PG and UG laboratory facilities with the latest technologies. Also, conduct various hands-on workshops and training programs for our students in every semester to improve their technical knowledge.

As per the media reports, the coming years will be based on automation. According to the analysis, all industries are trying to produce more amounts of quality products within a short time. For this, the manpower has limitations and hence the companies are going for automation. Automation helps to reduce the errors occurring at the time of production, to increase the product quality, to increase the volume of production by the application of most modern Instrumentation and control technologies.

The duty of control and Instrumentation engineer is to design the control, measuring equipment and calibrate it to reduce the errors in the production. Instrumentation has many specialized area such as Robotics and automation, control engineering, space instrumentation, nuclear instrumentation, artificial intelligence, petrochemical instrumentation, biomedical instrumentation and many more. The department is trying to develop the knowledge of the student not only by the academic works but also with industrial training. The course covers all the specialized areas of instrumentation and control and industrial related lab sessions that would help the students to set their future in an advanced specialized area.

POC Mentoring session for students was conducted across all regions on 7th Aug 2019 and our session was conducted at Marian Engineering College, Trivandrum. After the sessions POC presentation was done Infront of the panel and teams were shortlisted after a month for the National Level Bootcamp. The national level bootcamp was conducted at the AICTE headquarters, New Delhi. Out of 3400 applications it was scaled down to 1700 PoCs and further to 73 teams for national boot camp and finally with 24 finalists for the next round of evaluation for incubation support and further funding assessment. For the national bootcamp 4 teams from Kerala was there and finally for the incubation and funding assistance to consider for Start-up by the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) of MHRD's Innovation Cell and AICTE on 2nd February 2020. For this evaluation 17 teams were only present and in this 3 teams from Kerala were there. The IIC-MHRD's Innovation Cell and AICTE has agreed to support us financially and Mi-Zone Kannur has agreed to incubate our project.

AWARD WINNING IDEA

Our Automatic-Puttu Making machine was selected among the top 806 ideas from various competitions conducted by MHRD-IIC from 2017 onwards. SIH hardware, SIH software, Institution innovation council, MHRD innovation cell and International hackathon were the competitions conducted.

24 Teams got selected for the finals from all over India after eliminating 73 teams which was initially over 3400 and ours was one among the 2 teams which were from the state of Kerala. For the final presentation, we were asked to prepare a 1-year financial plan for our start-up and with the help of staff from MBA we prepare the Financial plan and later on, the Innovation council of MHRD approved our financial plan. We were informed to contact an Incubator in our locality and we have contacted Mi-Zone which is an incubation centre which is located at Dharamshala Kannur. And they have agreed to incubate us. After receiving the fund, we will be starting up the company this year itself.
